Used Wedding Dresses: How to Find the Perfect Second Hand Dress For Your Wedding
All brides want to look and feel their absolute best on their wedding day. Finding the perfect wedding dress is one of the most important parts of planning a wedding. Unfortunately not all brides can afford to buy the brand new designer gown that was just featured on the cover of the latest bridal magazine. For brides that are on a tight budget, buying used wedding dresses is a good way to go.
For some brides, there is still a stigma when it comes to wearing a dress that was previously owned by someone else. Just because it was another bride's wedding gown does not make it any less special for your wedding. Many used wedding dresses look just like new. Obviously they were only worn once, some may never have even made it to the alter making it completely new. You would be surprised how many gorgeous dresses you can find that have been pre-owned.
The prices of used wedding dresses can be fractions of their original cost. Most of the time you are able to get savings of up to 50 -75% off. The price will depend in large part on the condition of the dress. If it looks like it didn't even make it out of the store, the asking price will probably be higher. If it's a designer dress, expect to pay more as well. Designer dresses are hard to come by, and you are still paying significantly less for it than you would for a brand new dress so it's still a great deal.
As more brides are considering buying used wedding dresses, the places that are offering them for sale are steadily increasing. The first place to go look for pre-owned dresses is a brick and mortar consignment shop. Remember to always ask the clerk if they have any wedding dresses there. Don't assume they don't carry any if you don't see it displayed in the store. Some wedding dresses can be quite bulky and are stored in the back.
Online sites such as Bravo Bride and Once Wed are another great resource. They specialize in bringing brides together to buy and sell wedding dresses. These online marketplaces let brides who no longer want their dress to post on there and sell it at deep discounts to new brides looking to find one. They will often include lengthy descriptions of how the dress looks with lots of pictures so the buyer has enough information to make a purchasing decision.
Besides being able to get your wedding dress cheap, there are other benefits for buying used wedding dresses. One of the best reasons is that it is extremely eco-friendly. By recycling these dresses, you are making a great contribution to the environment. Instead of ordering a dress months in advance at a bridal boutique and go in for numerous fittings to make sure it fits perfectly, if you try on a used dress that fits well, you can take it home immediately. Any kind of imperfection can be fixed by a skilled tailor. You can score a brand name dress that you can actually afford. Last but not least, most wedding dresses do not go out of style so quickly. Dresses from a few seasons ago are still trendy today, so you will still look like the fashionable bride that you are.
