Wedding HELP! A few wedding questions? Thanks!?

I am getting married July of 2011 and I have only been to a couple of weddings in my life so I have a few questions of money, who buys what etc. ANY ADVICE IS APPRECIATED! Even if it has nothing to do with my questions all advice is welcome! Will choose best answer and will be checking this every 10 mins or so!

1) Who buys the bridesmaids dresses? Me or the bridesmaids?
2) who buys the tuxes for the groomsmen?
3) who buys the flower girl dresses?
4) who is supposed to plan the bridal shower?
5) Is a potluck type theme okay for a reception? (his family is PR and mine is irish so I thought it would be nice to have both families see the difference in food and also his mother is an AMAZING COOK!)
6) Is it okay to have a formal reception for family and then a more informal reception for friends?
7) ANYTHING ELSE YOU CAN THINK OF THANK YOU!!!!

1)Bridesmaids buy their own dresses, if you can afford it, it is nice to buy them, but not expected. Its nice to pay for their hair to be done. Let them pay for their nails, shoes, ect. Also, you give them a gift, in my case, I am giving a piece of jewelry in the colours of the wedding.

2) Same with the tuxes. Groomsmen pay for them, if you can, its nice to, but not expected. Obviously no hair and nails for them, but you do give them a gift also. I have seen everything from money clips to beer steins.

3) Usually the parents of the flower girl. I would buy the flower girl's dress though. Again with a small gift for her. Same with the ring bearer, if you are having one.

4)That usually goes to the Maid of Honour. More often than not, all the bridesmaids are in on it and , usually the bride's mother too. If you're really close to your future mother in law, its also nice to include her.

5) Potluck is absolutely fine. I find that catered food is NEVER as good as what your family can make. I find that catered food is often bland and dry. If you have an amazing cook, go for it!

6) If you feel the need to have a formal reception, its fine. If you want to do all the traditional stuff, with your family and then just dance and drink and whatnot with your friends, that is perfectly fine. Its your wedding, and I find that most people are very accommodating.

If you're serving alcohol, I find that beer and basics are enough, unless your family really enjoys wine.
Remember, you will not please everyone, no matter how hard you try. Make the decisions that are best for you, your fiance and your budget.
